Pacific Cycle specifically tests for lead paint using 16 CFR 1303 (Code of Federal Regulations). The test is for total lead in painted surface coatings, although there are lead requirements for substrates in specific situations too. Total lead testing calculates the exact amount of lead in any given surface coating and usually yellow, red and orange have the highest amount of lead. The total allowable limit is 600 ppm, but the CPSC has been known to accept a toxicology review if the limits exceed the allowable limits.
