Electric ceiling heaters can be mounted to the sidewall or hang from ceiling, or flushmounted. they are not meant to be mounted on the floor. Since there are no open flames, the clearance requirements for mounting are minimal compared to gas radiant heaters, but should be mounted away from any possible human contact. Some electric IR heaters are safe to use indoors or in an enclosed patio and are fairly economical to operate. Electric heaters have adjustable heat output and are a good alternative when gas is not appropriate. Electric heaters are virtually silent and require no venting. Gas tube heaters usually hiss and require ventilation. Calculating BTUs: Luckily, there are methods in place for estimating the proper IR heater size that is appropriate for your needs. For electric IR heaters ceiling suspended or wall mounted in an enclosed space, allow 10,000 watts for each 1,000 square feet of floor space or 10 watts per square foot. Since 10 Kw roughly equates to 34,000 BTUs, or 3.4 BTUs per watt, you can calculate how many BTUs are needed.
